Exclamation Streaky Finish

So while my parents are away this week I decided to lay unfinished Pine Flooring in the Office and ran into a problem when after three coats of varathane on the final coat dried extremely streaky from the brush... So my Question is, if I were to sand it down a bit and then put on two heavier coats will you still be able to see the streaks from the bad coat? If you can help I would really appreciate it as my parents come home tomorrow...

Although FAR from any kind of expert, I've always found when using any kind of poly, that multiple "thinner" coats float out better and you get a much smoother finish. I use mineral spirits and thin to about 50% on my last few coats. It also dries a lot quicker.

Are applying a gloss finish product or a "satin" finish?

Before doing anything I would make sure the finish has cured. If you used oil base poly, then use JW's suggestion of thinning, and try a sample at one third at first.

If you used a water based poly, don't add mineral spirits, use water as a thinner. Read the label for the thinning of that particular product. Again, experiment with samples.

With either, a light sanding before the final application. Make sure the floor is clean of all debris and dust.
