painting redwood

i need to paint some new redwood 2" X 6" boards i installed outside. i figure to let them sit for a week or so outside, arizona high temps. i believe ill need to seal them before painting and would like to buy the products at HD. any recommendations on which sealer.

If you just have to paint redwood (seems like a waste of good redwood to me) then I would just use a good primer and good outdoor paint.

I know I'm new here but definitely not to woodworking. But, I agree with George on painting Redwood. Seems like a waste but that's just my opinion.

opinions, hmmm, opinions and butts, we all have them and they both stink. anyway i choose to use redwood, only three 2" X 6" 8' for a simple shelf. its easy to work with and termite proof. i really dont know why i have to justify the reason behind using it but what the h*ll. anyway there going to be painted red and i know they are a soft wood and will absorb the paint.
