Default Formica table question

Hey guys i would like to build myself a better drill press table. I have been looking around the internet to get some ideas, and i there are alot lol. like this one i like the idea of t-tracks and stuff.

http://blogs.popularwoodworking.com/...3-LPDPT-QS.jpg

My question is after i make the table and put the tracks in and what not i want it to have a very good surface so the work moves easy. It looks like the one in the picture has Formica or something similar. Would that be a good thing to use, and if so can't you get it in some sort of veneer that you can glue on the top. I have never tackled anything like this so any info would be awesome

Thanks
Jeron

Just use a piece of melamine for the top.

You could just start with melamine, and rout dadoes for the track. If you use another substrate, like plywood, MDF, or particleboard, laminate the piece first with the Formica, and then rout for proper width and depth for the grooves. Much easier and more accurate than laminating after the tracks are installed.

Go to any cabinet shop and they should have lots of scraps they would give away. We have a bunch in our shop.

Then all you do is apply spray adheasive on both surfaces, wait about 10 minuites and stick them together. Just dont miss because once it sticks it is stuck for good.
