Default Finish for a hot spot?

OK I'm working on a vanity for my wife.. she uses a hair straightener I've already seen it leave a darkened spot on another piece of furniture so I'm looking for some suggestions for a finish for this table that WILL see that piece of dangerous equipment set on it

Default Whacu thinkin' here Willis?

A wood top vanity, marble, synthetic quartz, glass, Formica? If wood, then you can't let the heat get to it. Make a stand for the iron that matches the vanity top and train her to use it. Other wise have her leave it in all different places on the the top so the dark spots will look planned. Of couse you can go to a much darker finish, but even that may show the results of a hot iron. A piece of glass on the top will still show the wood and yet protect the top. Seems like you have 2 separate problems...hmmmm bill
