Default deep finish

I want to put a finish on an award plaque that looks like the wood is encased in a thick clear acrylic. In other words, the wood looks like it's a quarter to half inch below the surface. What kind of finish is used to accomplish this?

While this epoxy will do as you want, it(or any finish I know of) will not stop water vapor and eventually since the wood cannot freely expand and contract it will be damaged.

Regards

Jerry
