Default contemporary furniture finish

Hi guys...

I'm new to woodworking. I noticed that the contemporary furniture sold in store has sort of finish that is not really high gloss but very very smooth.

Do you know how to achieve such effect?

Thanks a bunch!

I will assume you are talking about furniture that is finished with lacquer. For a glass smooth finish you need to fill the grain of open pored woods prior to the final topcoat.

Add: .......regardless of what sheen (Flat, Satin, Semi-gloss, Gloss) is used.

Thanks a lot!

I believe the finish called "luster look"... maybe...

Any suggestions on brand of lacquer? and, product to fill the wood grain...

thanks again!

I buy 80% of my chemicals from www.woodfinishersdepot.com. They also sell flattening agent separately so you can flatten things out to any degree you want. I would not recommended this unless you have experience at it. There is a good likelyhood you can get the luster too flat and have a dead 'lack-luster' look. They also sell paste wood grain filler and just about everything else for finishing and refinishing.
