Default Commercial painter looking for finishing maple trim advice!

Normally we do not finish interior items of any kind, but a builder we work for has asked if we would tackle an interior trim job for him. Its maple (stock square for most part). He wants it prefinished (one coat in our shop (poly, no stain) then trimmers put up and we spray windows and trim. Doors we will do in our shop totally before bringing onsite. Should we use any kind of wood conditioner on prior to first coat? Also once one wall do you guys normally just tape off wall with like a 12" piece of paper and spray? Also what type of wood filler would you recommend to fill holes prior to final coat?

Lastly, (and thanks for everyones time!) the windows, do you paper them and spray them, or recommend taking sashes out?

Thanks!

I`m an interior trim guy 35 years, and I love this post...most windows come out easily. Like you said...mask the walls with 12" paper and tape. Spray a sanding sealer, but don`t sand until it`s installed...use the washable sponge sanding pads...you can probably get these for free at the paint out-let. Then top coat with matched laquer. If you have space in your shop...that`s great for the doors...mark doors so they can find there home. I hope the builder dosen`t want the whole trim package prefinnished before it`s installed! Anyway, The trim crew will come back for the punch-out...they may ask you to hang the doors...you really need to touch base with the trim guys. Closet shelving, stairs, shoe mold and built-ins might be an issue. To fill the FEW nail holes...use Colorputty. I hope all goes well Rick

As far as prep...maybe a little sanding before the seal coat. Rick
