Default Blotchy Poly finish on cherry

I used some wipe on poly and it looks to be a little blocthy. What could be causing this problem, or is it just the wood?

I would have sealed it with a 2# cut first. Cherry is notorious for blotching like this. You could also wipe it with some thinner first to see if you are going to have this problem. Any areas like this will show right up.

So, you're saying you wiped on some clear poly and it made the cherry blotchy? I think it is just the figure of the wood. We call it curly cherry. It's beautiful, just the way God intended it, enjoy it.
