Default Applying oil based poly - thick or thin?

I am getting ready to finish my first project. Will be using oil based tain and poly.I am currently practicing on some scrap wood. When applying the poly is it best to apply thin or thick coats? I have heardit recommended both ways soI am a bot confused.

Thin. Otherwise the top will cure and the deeper layer won't. Best to use multiple thin layers.

Thin.
I even thin down the poly with "oderless" mineral spirits. Try it on some scrap.
It takes a few more coates, but each one dries quickly. I think the results are far superior. No "syrupy" finishes.

Thin is in. Like the others said. Use a good brush, make sure you tack rag the project before each coat, and don't over brush it. It will level out itself.

I finished my first set of samples with the stain I want and 2 coats of poly. Looks good so far. What would be a recommended final step.....wax, rubbing compound, polish? Should I just leave it alone?

A nice 100 grit belt sanding should be just the ticket...

Just kidding!!!!!!!!!!

You're probably done, but a light wax buff shouldn't hurt.
