I put anywhere from 6 to 10 coats of this on. I don't use CA for 2 reasons, I don't like the smell and I don't like the feel. I also don't turn acrylics for the same reason, I can't stand the smell and don't like the feel. I like the look and feel of wood, so that is what I work with. I've checked out some of your work and it is gorgeous, just wish I could get past the stench

Thanks for the reply. I do understand about the feel of wood. I do not make too many wood pens but from the ones I sold I have people on both sides of the equation tell me they either like the look and feel of a satin wood or the gloss look of a CA finish. With a CA finish you can really bring out the charachter and look of the woods. With the satin look you get the feel of a french polished look. I have also done a CA finish and knocked it back with steel wool just to soften the gloss but what that does is keeps the hard shell finish.

Anyway the reason I edited my post is because I thought either you or someone else would have thought I was degrading your work with the way I phrased my words. I sometimes get into trouble with that. I meant no disrespect of your work but wanted to point out to the other poster that pen turning is fun and that the fun gets greater with the use of segmentation and casting your own blanks. Here the mind is the only limit.

One other note i get rid of most of the smells by having my dust collector running behind my lathe as I finish or turn anything.

No worries. I understand how sometimes what you type doesn't really jive with what you're trying to say. I didn't take it as a put down.

Thanks also for the ideas, I may have to go back and try some acrylics again.
