Default Segmented turning question

I have made several segmented bowls in the past. However, I always enjoyed regular turning without all the cutting and gluing. I just saw a photo that got me back into it again. Not full scale segmented. I was thinking about a hybrid turning. Mostly traditional with 1 or 2 segments for design.

Anyway, I have been making a lot of cremation urns lately. I would like to make a ring to go in the middle of my turning for decoration. I would like it to have two or three types of contrasting woods, and have a crucifix every few inches. Something like the attached pic.

My thought was to make a board with my design thought its core. Then when a make a segmented ring, I could slice off one section of this design for every segment ring component. Once each ring segment is cut to length they could be cut in half, and then I could glue the design section into each segment.

How would this be done?

If all the sides are the same size, make one quarter of the pattern and glue the four of the pattern together to get the full design. That way all the pieces are the same size and symetric.

That is just a quick response. If you need more, I may be able to actually draw it out an post but I have been pretty busy lately.

Thanks Fred. I'll try that and see how it works.
