I'm justing starting out on segmented turning and need some definitions.


Segment: see below

Width

Length

wall thickness

edge length

I agree with the Woodsman very good place to get all the info you need. Also do a search segmented turning and go to tools and jigs Kevin Neely has all the info you need to make a sled for cutting segments.

I simply sit down with a compass, ruler and sheet of paper and draw it out full size. Then it's quite simple to just measure them. The angles for the segments is simply # of segments divided into 360 divided by 2.
Buy Malcolm Tibbetts book on the art of segmented turning. It is the best of all the books I have. You can find it at Amazon.com

You can also find a lot of info by simply doing a google search.

Thanks for all the answers. I found a little site that explains what edge length is.

I did a google search ( edge length segmented turning)
