That is really nice. Keeping the bark on there through the entire process of drying, turning, polishng etc. could not have been easy. I'm not a turner but even I can appreciate the effort and time that had to take.

I would like to know what the finish is, and if you think the red will be preserved. Did you coat it with pentacryl or anything of the like immediately, soon after, never?

I guess I just want a complete description from start to finish with no detail left out is all.

Thanks, it was sort of tough and tricky to watch and not loose the back. The finish is laquer (several coats). I cut the tree and knew right then I wanted to turn something from it just because of the color. After some time and thinking I got back to it and it had lost it's color and sort of bummed me out, but when I turned into it, I found that it was just the outside, and I told my wife that I needed to turn it fast and get it coated before it lost color again and that has been over a year now. Seen you site and I see you have some nice looking pieces of boxelder. jrs1@suddenlink.net

Most faded woods have color just under the surface waiting to be set free again by a machine or hand tool.

Yes I have alot of it, which explains my interest in your experience with it. I have gained quite a bit of knowledge about this species but I will never know it all and am always looking to get another bit of info anywhere I can. Thanks for the details.
