Default Latest pen

A friend who is a violin maker Barry Dudley came over to visit and to buy a twin lens Yashica camera from me. He brought a box of scraps from his work for me to make pen blanks of. I made a couple while visiting to show him the technique. After he left I dug out a laminated chunk and cut it down and turned it. The patterning reminded me of that of a fiddleback spider, fitting considering where I got it.

Today my wife and I got down to the woodshop and dug out a pen kit my son gave me that he was given -a Wall Street II. I didn't have any collars or proper pen mill to fit it so I improvised. I had the 27/64th drillbit so I drilled and sleeved the blank then sanded the ends square. Then I turned a set of cones from an ebony blank and mounted the sleeved blank up and turned it down, checking the diameter with my dial caliper, to .490 then sanding to .475. Polished starting with my sandpaper then finished with micromesh to a shine then some turners polish to wind it up.
Not bad for not having much to go by.
