New present for mummy in law, 1 rollin pin for the use of.
Mahogany handles and 2 lots of Holly The Pins are almost white from a younger Tree and the main body from an old tree from my old house, have a fair bit of this sitting in my main wood shop since i moved. The holly is really nice to turn. 22" in lenght and 12" x 2 1/2" body. LB..

Its a food safe chestnut products, It dries to a satin finish with a high degree of water resistance. thanks LB.

It's funny you did a rolling pin. It looks great. I described how to build one to a friend and then decided i would make a rolling pin lamp. I haven't had time to do it yet. I'm still working on how to get the wire through. I'm thinking about doing offset turning on the top and bottom of the handle so the pin will sit at an angle. I'm also trying to figure out how to make the joint strong enough not to break.

Hi John i did enjoy making it, funny the things you have not got around to before and then find enjoyment in them. You will have some fun in getting the wire through if you are offset turning, sounds fun to have a go at though, i see a 4 way spiral lamp sometime back each spiral was around a 1" diameter and had a light socket on each one looked okay but could not think how it was wired..LB.

I note you made the rolling pin for your mother in law, and not your wife. We've all heard what wives do with rolling pins! Nice work.
I had some holly once, about four inches in diameter, which I air dried in a four foot long piece. When I cut it into shorter lengths it checked severely. Do you have any problems with yours?

Hi Gerry, keep all blunt objects away from the wife, the holly i have has dried great i have a load from a tree i felled myself from my old house and some smaller stuff from my mothers old place, and was lucky enough to find a nice tree in some woods not far away from where i am, have a fair bit of it and its all great i had waxed it all the day i got it all, pinched the wifes deep fat fryer, and it still works today, in the workshop, now you know why the blunt objects are kept away from her...
All mine were cut at 3' as it was the biggest i cut get in the car i had at the time, no split no crack or any thing, carted a whole tree of eucaliptus home, the following day it was crap, never seen anything like it you could run marbles down inside all of it, no good for anything. LB..
