You'll need to stock up on the 1.25" screws, both fine and coarse thread. That length is what's used for 3/4" thick wood, so you'll presumably use those the most. The course thread are for softwoods, the fine threads are for hardwoods.

In my experience, stock up on the 1.25" screws, because you'll find you'll always need them around, and then for the other sizes, just buy them as you plan on needing them. For example, I put lattice up underneath my deck this summer (the deck is about two feet off the ground). I made frames out of 2x4 pressure treated lumber, and then attached the lattice panels to those frames. I used the 2.5" Blue Kote screws from Kreg (and pocket holes) to attach the frames together with butt joints. The Blue Kote is their exterior and corrosion resistant coating (they might actually have stainless steel too, which probably would have been better in hindsight).

Thanks Guys,

I knew about the fine vs. coarse threads. I didn't know what length to buy. I'll pick up some 1.25's in both threads.

I have a lb of the blue cote and a large box of both types of 1.25 and a small box of both of the 1" so it does deffinetly depend on where you work and what thickness you usually work with..

BTW amazon usually has good deals on the kreg screws

My local distributor has boxes of 1000 of the 1 1/4" for under $17. That's where I get mine. The local WoodCraft store sells boxes of 500 for the same price.

good choice on the K3, I bought mine based on the fact that it comes with a clamp and the front handle. I keep 1.25 screws in fine and coarse thread around and have some small packags of other sizes for different projects. Do shop around because as mentioned prices can vary by a lot. Also check prices by size, at my local menards it's cheaper to buy them by the 100 packs than it is to buy the 500 or 1000 boxes, I would have thought it would have been the other way around but guess not. You will find all kinds of uses for the jig that you never realized till you have it. Just making some shelves for the garage you can use the Kreg and make things easier.
