Default A preemptive request for help.

Hello all. My name's Greg, I've joined this forum and am posting because I'm about to start a fairly ambitious project and I'm just going to go ahead and assume that I'll be needing assistance along the way.

My carpentry background - nil.

Okay, that's not quite true. I did do the whole high school woodshop thing, and I grew up on a steady diet of New Yankee Workshop, This Old House, and the Woodwright, so I'm not entirely unknowledgeable. But A) woodshop was almost half a lifetime ago and B) it's a world of difference working in a giant well equipped shop with industrial woodworking machines vs. working in a 1 car garage/condo patio with a couple saw horses and a circular saw. So I'll definitely have to learn some new skills to work with what I have.

This is also by far the biggest thing I'll have ever buit. I of course have installed the odd shelf here and there and other little household projects. But, with a kid on the way, I've decided to build a fairly large modular closet storage unit in our 2nd bedroom-turned nursery from the ground up. I've taken a lot of time to plan it out and make the work as straight-forward as possible, but I have little doubt that I'll hit a snag or 10 along the way so I thought signing up here BEFORE I start would save me some time when I inevitably find myself swearing at some MDF.

Aaanyway, hi there. :)

Thanks.

And, yes, I screwed up my first 2 cuts. I thought I could get by with a straight edge and some clamps, but it's clear that I'm going to have to take a step back and build a cutting jig for my circ saw. Something like this should do the trick, though I might have to increase the dimensions to accommodate some larger pieces.
