Hello! My name is Mike and I would consider myself an amateur wood enthusiast. I work as a scenic carpenter but in my free time I like to build whatever I can. I have lots of questions and I think this forum will be a good help, and hopefully I in turn can offer something to it!

Welcome.

the Chicago area has lots of lumber sources, but here's another to checkout:

http://www.hickoryandoak.com/lumber.htm

He's located in SE Michigan but he makes trips to the Chicago with a truckload of lumber for sale. I've gotten stuff from him when I made trips to MI and it's all top grade lumber and very good prices. Steve's a very nice, very fair guy. Check his website for any info about his next trip to Chi.
