Hi everyone,

I am in the woodworking business, and looking for a program that is easy to use but produces quality drawings. We design and build custom cabinetry, and presently we provide clients with hand drawn illistrations which are time consuming to create.

Does anyone have any suggestions for programs that do not require CAD training to use?

Me and a couple others on this forum use a program called E-Cabinets. It's still requires a lot of time to draw up a set of cabinets from scratch but once you have a large selection designed then just a few clicks and you can resize them to fit any need. Here is a link. It's free by the way.

Marlene: Hi' sorry to say but you cannot just "pickup" Ecabinets. All you need to do is go to www.thermwood.com; on ur left you see a menu in there is "ecabinet systems link, klik that, fill out all your info and submit it; Once they verify you are a cabinetshop they will send you a copy for F R E E included on cd/dvd is a manual. I believe you will love it once you get into it.It is truly a fantastic program and really really goes into as deep as you want in the design part. Full 3D presentation, right down to countertop materials,colors,etc etc. Learning curve is there as in all programs. However within 15 mins you can be "drawing" any cabinet you want I know this will not make sense this sec but you DO NOT have to draw. All you do is take a cabinet from the templates, input your dimensions, style etc push "enter" poof drawn,you then can get a cut list, cost list, sheet cutting diagram etc etc: save all this to a new name and it is now in a new directory that you can go back to etc.
PLUS they have the greatest staff to help you out,free 800 calls, free updates, free dedicated forums etc etc etc.

DAVE: Please explain why you have to draw in your program? Sounds like there is another program that has used the same name but is no way the same program. You got my curiosity now LOL

:} just that your original post sounded like you were having problems drawing in the program I find doing the cabinets rather fast and easy however after that I am toast!!!!! Getting into that damn room critter and trying to use it drives me up the wall As you said once you set it up the way you bild your cabinets and get a library going it is suhweet.

I gotcha. I did not really have any problems but it's the little detail pieces that can give you fits. Getting all the info right in the right places and all the parts and pieces put in for the way you build your cabinets took time.


I don't really have trouble with it now. I wish I needed to use it more.

I'm pretty knowledgeable with e-cabs, nowhere an expert but if you are starting out I could give you a hand with any questions you may have. I helped Dave start out, Once you get the basics you can go pretty far. The part editor and the confignment manger are harder areas to work with. And there are a few quirks with the software that have work arounds. You can post the here (better, others will learn) or PM me with questions. If I don't know they have a whole forum where the really smart people hang out and talk ecabs.

ROFLOL In fact you will love it, you just have to go thru a little bit to qualify and then you will actually believe us guys that are telling ya to TRUST ME LOL.
