Ok, that was funny. In my shop it's ususlly the tools that move around on their own, never where I leave them.

Google it and then download. It really is pretty slick and even if your clueless you can play with it and figure things out somewhat.
There are on-line help functions as well as video's out there. Just google with your question after the words sketch-up.

If you want to set-up your own garage/shop in SU this is where you get all the tools.

Answer: it works pretty well for me with the latest wine (currently wine-1.1.11). See http://wiki.winehq.org/GoogleSketchup
for more info, including a list of known issues and workarounds.
If you find new problems, please report them by posting a
bug at bugs.winehq.org, or by emailing me (dank at kegel.com).

Not sure what the Pro version offers that the free version doesn't. BUT... Pro is not free...

DanKegel,

Thanks for the link! The unable to initialize OpenGL is the error I get... Looks like a registry tweak. (There's a stupid though, Tweak the Windows registry in Linux... suuuure...

Worth mentioning, I haven't read many how-to's, just playing with it for now.

Hey to get your stuff to lock on to other things highlight the items with the little arrow then click on the move button. Then when you go to click on the object that you want to move, the bench for example. Click on the very bottom of the leg. now you have it and are moving it. then go all the way down to the floor and it will stop. I think your having your problem because you are clicking higher then the bottom of the leg. the mouse will not go beyond the floor so make sure your mouse is at the bottom of the leg before you pick up your object and you should be fine. Because if you click on the object at lets say the top of the table then the entire table will be lowered past the floor until the mouse icon gets to the floor and stops. Keep in mind that when i say it wont go past the floor i mean it will lock onto the floor and say something like "on edge". If you keep pushing it will still go past the floor but if your careful it will lock on and it will be fine.

Yeah, the registry tweak shouldn't be needed. Once Sketchup is working well in Wine, Google might be able to get rid of the need for that tweak.

Please, please, if anybody runs into new problems with Sketchup on Linux, report them so the Wine devleopers can fix them. If nowhere else, email them to me (dank at kegel.com). Thanks!

sax i use the free one and i have all the options. You just need to turn them on. here is how you do it.

Up in the top left hand side of the screen you will see some buttons. Click on the one that says VIEW, then scroll down to the very first one that says TOOLBARS. highlight that and another panel automatically pops up just to the right. go in there and turn on all the toolbar that you want. If it has a check mark it means you are using it and can already see it. If it doesn't it means that you can't see it. A tool bar is basically the buttons that you see and that do the certain type of action. You can also drag the different tool bars around to arrange them however you want.

Now that you have all those buttons up you need to learn how to use them right. Look down at the bottom left side of the screen. Click on the little blue circle with the question mark in it. once you click that you will notice a box pops up that says "instructor". It is just that, you will notice that it has a video of what the certain button does and gives you a detailed explanation on how to use it. It also shows the modifier keys. When you push certain buttons on your keyboard while using the tools they do different things. Then the last thing is highlighted blue links. They teach you advanced techniques on how to use the certain tool. When you click on a link it will open another window that has a very detailed explanation on how to use the "advanced technique". If you keep this "instructor" box open you will notice that when ever you click on another button in Sketch up it changes the instructor to tell you how to use that certain button. The other thing is if you click on a advanced technique link the new page it pops up is the sketch up help center, at the top of the page you will see a Google search bar. Type any question you might have in the Google search bar and hit enter. for example "how do i draw a circle". This will bring up ALOT of answers that will help you. If you have anymore ?'s let me know and i'll see what i can do.

djones, what features doesn't yours have? I use the free version and can do anything I've seen on the images people have put up here. It definitely takes some getting used to in order to build things, but I've found the tutorials to be quite good.

I wanted to ask a question, I messed around with SketchUp soon after it first came out but didn't find any means to actually dimension a part or make a drawing with dimensions. Has the new version included any dimensioning features?

I got a Question. I have seen a video about what Sketchup can do and one of those things was a table or something and they were able to make all the pieces move apart and back together so you can see how it goes together. How do I do that? Maybe it's not part of the free version?

I also wanted to ask if the images being posted are from the free version of sketchup or the pro version? I know someone mention they were using the free version.

You can in a sense. you can make the legs a group and the top a group so then you can take them apart.

you can look in this thread and see what i have made so far and it is all with the free version. from what i can tell the only difference from the free one to the pro one is that in the pro version you can export your drawing to a major program like Auto CaD. you can't do that in the free one.

Right, but from what I saw in the video it looked almost like they were using a scroll wheel so-to-speak, and the parts were moving apart and coming back together. Can you do that by making groups?
