Default First attempt at sketchup

I finally started using and figuring out sketchup. I did a radiator cover that I am planning to make. I worked through the steps and this is what I came up with. I did have a few questions regarding the slats and placing them. I made each one individually and I am sure there is some way to make one and place it in the open area and space it out.

You can use the select tool to select the entire slat then copy and paste it. I haven't quite gotten it to paste where I want it to, but I've started getting the move capability a little closer to mastered. After you've copied and pasted a couple reselect all of them then copy and paste in groups.

here is an easy way to do a copy of something. there are 2 ways to do this

The first way is do make a copy of the object and then type a number then the letter x and it will make that many copys.

for example look at the pics. the first pic i have my object i want to copy. I put a guide line next to it because i want each object that is copied to be a certain distance apart.

Then in the next step i highlight the object i want to copy, then use the move tool to make a copy of it and place it where i want.

once i place it i typed "5x" and this tell the computer i want that object copied 5 times. as you can see it adds 4 more copies so you have a total of 5 copies of the original. The other thing is that it makes all of the copies the same exact distance apart as the first copy you did.

i hope this all makes sense.

the next way is kinda the same as the first way i described but instead of puting a "x" after the number of copies you put a "/". This tells the computer that you want that number of copies but you want them divided evenly in between where you put the first copy. here are some more pics

ok so in the first pic i am starting with the object i want copied.

Then in the next pic i highlight the object and move a copy to where i want the last copy to be.

Then i typed 8/ and that tells the computer that i want a total of 8 copies of the original and i want them spaced evenly in between the two i already have.

One other nice trick you can do is when you are at the stage of typing either #x or #/ if you don't like that number then just type another one with either x or / depending on what you are doing and it will automatically redo it. you can redo the numbers of copies as much as you want as long as you don't do another task.

Guys, pay attention to, learn, and practice making these "arrays". You'll use them a lot to knock hours off your drawings.

I would suggest (only because I had to do it) copying and printing priceless tips like this, and starting a loose-leaf binder notebook of these various techniques.
