Default Accessing older files...

I just recently upgraded from sketch up 6 to sketch up 7 and now I cannot access any of my older sketches from the drop down "open" file window. I am not computer savvy by any means so if there are any solutions to my problem you may have to "dumb" down the answer a bit so I can understand it. I am using a Mac OS 10 BTW.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Scott, you should still be able to open the files from whatever folder they are stored in, they just won't appear in the list until you've opened them once with the new version.

I don't use a mac so some of the specific navagation properties may be slightly different. I prefer to keep skp files from all SU versions stored in the same folder. This seems to be the default destination for new SU installs. Mac doesnt have a "my documents" folder but I understand there is one similar to that although I don't know what it's named.

Normally SU will save all .skp files in the same folder. In your case it seems that you have chosen a file folder destination unique to SU 7 so that when you attempt to open a model the older models arent shown. In SU you can opt to save files in any folder you choose. This destination folder is listed in that versions preferences. You can change the destination folder any time but files that were already saved will remain there until you move them

If you still have SU 6 installed...the easiest way to find them is to open SU 6 and open a model from there and note the location of the destination folder. You can also look in the "window/prefrences/file" menu and it will indicate the file folder SU 6 stored the files.

If you are adept at navigating your programs menu in mac os x you can also find the folder in which the files were stored by searching your file system for all files ending with .skp
Once you find the file locations SU 7 will open them but once opened in SU 7, SU 6 will no longer open the files unless you save the file as an SU 6 file in the drop down menu at the bottom of the "save as" window
