Default 12' Stanley Powerlock II

I didn't know they quit making the PL II until I wanted to get another one. So I called Stanley & they said whenever they quit making them in the usa and started buying the ROC stuff they phased them out. She says 5 to 6 years ago.

Sooo, the likelihood of me running across another one is highly unlikely, but if you don't ask, you don't receive. So I am asking members, especially those in rural areas where there are still mom and pop hardware/general stores that if you think about it, next time you're in there look to see if they have a dusty old model 33-312 Powerlock II - has to have the numeral "II" after it.

I am only interested in the 12' tape. Tis my fav shop tape for several reasons. FYI you can't find them online even though several sites still have the old images. You can't even trust the model number 33-312 because they use that same number for all their 12' tapes even the Powerlock without the II, and no matter what factory they come out of in chinee and no matter the 1/2" width or the 3/4" width.

As you can see, mine finally needs replacement. I spilled acid on the blade and while I can still read it because the steel tape was laser etched, it is difficult. I like this tape so much I spent 3 hours online last night doing nothing but looking for one.

The PL II is the plastic chromed case and has the "II" after it. This model was never changed from how it looks in the photo below so if you see one like this, you found one. Anyone run across any, buy the whole case and I will make it worth your while.

And of course, if any of you happen to have an extra one lying around and could use some berr money or wood . . . . . . .

I have an old PL II but it's a 25'.
Have you tried yard sales? You might get lucky that way.

wolf, i appreciate the links but i already checked those out last night. I called northern this a.m and had them get the warehouse to verify whether or not they were PL II (because I knew they were probably not) and they weren't.

The rep said her manager was happy I brought it to their attention and that they would replace the image to reflect it.

They cannot be found from any online source IMO. Any that are left are collecting dust on a pegboard in some obscure place like Smitty's Barbeque, Upholstery, and Hardware store.

Sky, get that tape off your belt and in the mail!

How about just a replacement tape, or is there something special about it also?

There must be, because the cheapest refill I can find is $25 after shipping.

It isn't a PL II blade refill but it is supposed to fit my Powerlock II according to what I have read.

The 33-612 refill doesn't have all those cool tables and conversions on the back but hey, I never used them anyway. I'll probably break down and spend twice as much on the refill as I did for the tape some 10 years ago.

Cool site sky. I'll check it out more later today after the mail deadline.

I'm a tape measure junkie I guess. Someone made a post about that a while back and showed a picture of his collection. I was too embarassed to participate in the thread becuase I have enough taoes to open a store, and if I find all the ones I have lost around here ......

Ain't that funny. I have several dozen tapes - maybe 50 of them and the one tape I want i can't get.

Now before you go slamming me as a out-of-control consumer, at least half of those tapes I just sort of "got". About 8 or 10 were in my FILs tool collection I inherited, I have "found" several over the years that i had "lost and replaced", and a friend who moved to Alaska gave 90% of his possessions to his friends and family. I was one of the first in his basement shop,, and all I took off his hands was a small tool box his great uncle had given him. I couldn't believe he didn't want it. It was full of files of all sizes and shapes, several hundred cotter pins in various small antique containers, and you guessed, about a dozen very old steel tapes of various manufacture. Several of the first stanley tapes and a couple of brands I never heard of. They were all small ones mostly 6' x 1/4" wide variety.

There, I have justified my possession of a rediculous number of tapes. Still, I don't have a 12' x 3/4" Powerlock II and I might have a nervous breakdown if I don't find one soon . . . . . . .

TT
After the breakdown we will be glad to get with MsTT and try to get rid of all the junk that she doesn't want around. I do have a 12' PL II but it is in my betterhalf's small toolbox and I am forbidden to touch anything in it under threat of death. You understand. I actually use an old 25' PL II for most everything.

Default Tape measure toss

I had a Powerlock II 16' thrown at me after my buddy got hit in the head, no safety lid, while hammering vigorously just beneath a 12" Jogenson hand screw clamp on a laminated post. I avoided the incoming much like Bush 41 did with the shoes. We are still good friends, but we don't work on stuff together anymore. A PWL 12' might have had more velocity and I might not have been so lucky. bill

When you google Stanley Powerlock II 12' x 3/4" Ben Meadows comes up on page one with the PL II image so it was one of the 1st places I called. I learned early on that just because some sites still have the images of the PL II it means nothing.

I do appreciate you trying to help. I surely do, but they simply cannot be found online, at least from actual online stores.

I continue to check ebay though . . . .

Default Hey there TT

I spent about a hour trying to find your Powerlock II 33-312 on line today. no luck. Problem is that they still carry that model no. but it doesnt say Powerlock II on the side, so it must be the newer model. So what is it that your model has "that's so special," as the church lady would say? You mentioned plastic case and something in scales on the backside you didn't use anyway...Wouldn't some other brand name have the special features you need? I even talked to someone on ebay who said they had a request for the older model a few days ago...musta been you? I even tried hardware stores with 140 retail outlets..no luck. bill
