Default Woodworking book

Hello,
I want to build house cabinets for bathrooms,Kitchens and Ext. projects. I have at least intermediate level with woodwork in tools and in handling. I have never built cabinets or furniture type stuff, mostly ruffer like decks, walls ext. What would be a good book or books for cabinets. My first project is to build a Bathroom Vanity, With two sinks, that is about 60 inches. What direction should I go.
Thanks,
Chris (kf6cmp)

Chris,
I don't have an exact book to recommend. But I would say to try your local library first off. Check the books and also the video section. If the library is a decent size on, you should be able to find some suitable materials to your liking. A vanity is a good project to start with before tackling a kitchen. You might want to visit the local big box store and get some measurements and a brochure or two from their vanities. This will help you understand the fit and assembly of the cabinets. It should also answer a lot of those little
questions such as "Gees, I wonder how big the toe kick should be?" Also lets you see how doors are made and drawer hardware is installed. Good luck,
Mike Hawkins

I have relied on "Modern Carpentry" by W.H. Wagner & H.B. Smith for raw/basic info. It's a high school text, but all the basic fundamentals are covered.

For ideas on design, searches on the topics are full of ideas. As mentioned library, I also brouse book stores fresh ideas.
Kernov's first three is also considered required reading by many.

The best thing to do I beleive (which I do) is go to amazon.com and have a look at what's available. You will find much more in amazon that in anywhere else. I love amazon because of the readers reviews. See what others have to say about a particular book.

Illustrated Cabinetmaking by Bill Hylton is the best I've ever read.

Chris.
There is a lot of info on line and at google and there is some good stuff on you tube. You can also get some good wood working books at a used book store hope this helps.

Bruce.

Hi

In addition to what has been suggested you may also want to look at books from Tauton Press, they are the publishers of Fine HomeBuilding and Fine Woodworking

http://www.taunton.com/index.asp

A couple of books

Building Traditional Kitchen Cabinets by Jim Toplin
Building Kitchen Cabinets by Udo Schmit

Good Luck

Kevin
