Question Woods of the Bible

We kinda have a policy here that some subjects are not discussed with much welcome (politics-guns-religion) Because they can get heated. But this is not a religious discussion, it is a job. I have a Pastor buddy who is wanting to make a collection for youth discussion of woods mentioned in the Bible. A tangible learning aid thing. And maybe make more for sale to other churches he deals with.

We have talked a little about it and, forgive the pun, we are stumped. Off the top of my head I know cypress (some fella named Noah used it to build a boat), got some. One wood I have plenty of is Judas Tree an ornamental Redbud. Willow and walnut are mentioned, have those. Cedar of Lebanon, don't have that. Apple, have that. Apricot, not got but could get a little I suppose.

Any ideas ? I told him I would bring it up for discussion and maybe get some more species to add to this collection.

Interesting site Cabinetman. I was going to mention Olive Wood which is also mentioned on the referenced site. My places sell pen blanks from Bethlehem olive wood. I was thinking of making a couple of pens with it for Christmas for some friends.

I always thought the wood for the Ark was gopherwood. I think something was lost in translation because Noah was actually telling his sons to "go for wood."

Yes, that is debated from what I understand. And lost in translation is why, it's just assumed that in Gen 6:14 gopher means cypress to most. I am not very well versed on the subject personally so I can't argue one way or the other.

Yes I got it . I knew an old guy when I was a kid that called paper matches "gopher matches". He smoked a pipe and carried a matchbook most of the time, not a lighter, but always cursed the matches. "I can't even get my pipe lit good and I gotta' gofer' another match"
