Default Wood wanted in Minnesota

I saw a post on here earlier and a member was looking for a lumber supplier and someone posted they should talk to someone from the site. I was curious if any of the members on here are from Minnesota are into the lumber selling buisness. I would rather buy my lumber and support another member if possible.

THanks

Hu,
I am not in Minnesota, but I just wanted to say that it is a nice gesture on your part. I always try to support the people that are supporting me. I can tell you where to get some nice box elder if you wish, he's always lurking around......

Thanks for the support Mike. I have never used box elder but I am sure that I could use it in some project down the road.

Don't know specifically about MN but can tell you that your surrounded by us on this site! I'm in IA and there are a couple regulars who are in IL. Members in WI and MI are also regular folk here. Most guys using the site are workers of wood or more appropriately/officially Craftsman & Craftswomen, but there are a number hanging around the Milling Timber Framing who are specialty wood producers. Sure you'll get assisted in anyway you need. One of the "Master" Miller(s) is Daren, there are a few others but he's close to you (IL) and he maintains a pretty cool and up to date web site. One of the services he provides is a Directory of Sawyers throughout the country. You'll certainly run into him if you hang out here for any real time. Welcome to the site and Best Wishes on your Business endeavor.

I don't believe there's anyone from MN that sells lumber here, and I've been posting here for quite a while. I live in the Cities and usually use Youngblood in Minneapolis, where I get the wholesale price - e.g. skip planed true 1" red oak for $2.80. It's planed so well that usually only sanding is required. They have good amounts of stock, thicknesses, and quality lumber. Plus you can sort thru to find the boards you want. Their retail prices are higher, so get a MN Woodworkers Guild card for $30 annually and get the wholesale price.

Other than that there's surprisingly not a lot of good vendors in a state with lots of trees. I usually check out craigslist in the Minneapolis, St. Cloud, and Rochester categories to find other portable mill type sellers. But when gas was $4 I didn't venture out to find them.

Don't know where you're located, but there's a guy in New Brighton that I bought from once. He buys logs from tree services and cuts them up. He recently advertised walnut slabs for $3bf on craigslist.
I got a card from my brother-in-law for Hugo Tree Service that sells RS lumber.
