Default What do you use to wrap a log base.

I have some cedar columns that I set on a porch. 12" diameter at the top and 14 - 16" Bases. I had to use the old stihl chainsaw on these. Anyway, when the columns where up I noticed that the slab of the porch slopes away from the building quite a bit. As a result, I have a gap on the front. I have seen some contractors wrap the bases on the inside of houses with like a rubber or steel strip. These logs don't have the smoothest profile. What do you guys use/suggest? Please let me know where I can pick something like that up also.

I would break out the old Stihl again and cut them on the bottom to match the slope of where they set .

I'd like to see some pics of your work if you don't mind.
