Default Just the purpose of the blade

Hi John,

A re-saw blade is a blade designed to cut thick pieces, such as boards on end or to cut veneers. They are typically wide bands (to track straight) and have few teeth per inch, each with deep gullets to clear a lot of material.

John is absolutely right, but I'd add that if you compare blades of the same width and general configuration there can still be a difference. The sweetest resaw blade I have used is the Wood Slicer from Highland Hdwe. They list several factors that they say make it a great resaw blade, but maybe what you mean is are resaw and regular blades interchangeable. If that's what you mean I'd say at least the Wood Slicer isn't--in my experience it makes a poor general purpose blade--it doesn't like curves, perhaps because it has a very modest set to the teeth and cuts a narrow kerf. The first time I used one I was going from an almost new Timberwolf in the same size, etc. and the difference was amazing. The dedicated resaw blade cut truer, smoother, and faster by far for what it was made to do, but it didn't work well as a general purpose blade. For me it's well worth having both.
