Default want to design and build a chess set

I have been turning for a short time... but it is already my goal to build a chess set, board and pieces. However, I would like to design my own pieces to turn. I'm looking around for guidelines regarding proportions so that they aren't too short and fat or the bottoms to narrow, and the pawn isn't as almost as tall as a bishop...

Anyone have any guidelines?

Thanks
D

Here's a link about carving chess pieces. Step 2 give a little info about measurements. It's not everything you need, but it's a start.
