I'm building a sideboard out of poplar and I cut one of the tongues on a side rail about a 16th" to small for the 1/4" groove. Before I begin the glue up, any suggestions on a good filler technique for the tongue? I know I could always shot a couple of brads into the inside corner of the rail where it meets to leg, but I'm trying to stay true to the joinery method if at all possible. Thanks.
I wouldn't do the brad thing. It will end up coming apart (if I'm reading the problem correctly). I would rip off the tongue, groove the piece and insert a spline to re-create the tongue. Hope you work it out. Good luck, Russ
I would glue a shim onto the tounge and trim it for a snug fit. The brads are not the way to go. Always test your cut on scraps before cutting the actual piece. We have all done it and have learned from it. Post some pics when you have it completed.
