thoughts on making a mold for this?? - Woodworking Talk

OK............. I need to make a mold to vacuform some plastic..........

Each "leg" in the pic below is 3/32" long the the angles bieng 30deg to each other.......... anyone know of some kind of a bit that might work???? (It's a scale model of an ISO container........)

I'd like to avoid having to get a custom made router bit......... Just looking for thoughts............

I'm thinking that it might be easier to take a sheet of flat stock and add pieces of wood strips the appropriate width with the 30 degree angle properly spaced to the sheet of flat stock.

that's what I'm kinda trying to do......... Figure out how to mill the 30 deg angle...... that'as why I'm kinda thinking a v-grooving bit..... the finished size is about 3" long (for each strip) and 14" worth of this pattern...

It's gonna be hard to do. Working with such small pieces is gonna be dangerous as you well know.

What about this bit. You may have to make a pass then either raise or lower it to get the width you want then rip it off of the big peice and cut to length.

I don't know how money you have avaialbel for the project, but custom bits are no longer all that expensive. You could get a multi-stacker made to your exact specs. if there is even a modest amount of money behind the project.
And talking only 3/32 that "multi" could be many.

Actually, depending on the thickness of the plastic....... it will need to be smaller than that anyway.....

I may have to expriment and see what the vacuum draw is ... the
v-groove might work............
