Default Strong skills, Weak skills?

What are your strong wood working skills and your
weak wood working skills?

My weak skill is the band saw. On small things I do
OK, but any thing of size I end up sanding a lot.

My strong skill is fitting joints, mitered and rabbited.
I have never done any M&T, a lot of laps and scarfs.

Well, it's no suprise to anyone on this forum that is familiar with my work, that my strong suit is the scroll saw. The more intricate, the better. Weak? ummmmmmmm........I would definately have to say lathe work. I'm still fairly new at it and I am lacking in quite a few skills. However, I'm not giving up, and with the patient help from the kind members of this forum, I get better and better with every project.

My week spot is finding tools not made in China. I am getting better though and will be getting a new Festool sander.

But my real seak skill is dovetail drawers.

I don't know what my strong skill is but I recently discovered that my chisel work sucks and needs a lot of practice.

My weakest skill is planning. I lack the patience to sit down and draw something out, and pre-plan properly. I need to learn Sketch up. My strongest skill is the willingness to tackle almost anything, and the knowledge that a mistake is just another segment of the learning curve. It's a good thing that wood is fairly forgiving.

Hmm. Weak skill is definitely dove tail joinery. Bought a PC dovetail jig, but still have not taken the time to master it.
Strong skill...................creativity.

Now that I've thought about it, when I'm in the shop I often try something new but never really seem to master anything. But I do make pretty good use of scrap, so that's a strength. A weakness might be the fact that I have so much scrap to make use of.

Too many weak points to have the time to go into them.

Probably the most obvious is the lack of imagination.

Everything is relative. I'm less weak in some areas than others. I have yet to attempt many wood working tasks. When I do, I'm sure to discover whole new universes of weaknesses.

Great post BHOFM. My strongest points/skills are using hand tools and also being able to plan and design a project. I was fortunate enough to be taught cabinet making by some very skilled old school craftsmen using nothing but hand tools, no table saw, no planer in fact the only power tools I was ever allowed to use for the first year was the orbital sander. I really did have to cut everything using a hand saw or coping saw and then use my hand planes to square and size everything up. Even now it seems very archaic, probably because it was, but I have never lost the feel of using my hand tools. To this day I don’t look at any project and think it can’t be done because I don’t have a “insert power tool name here” to do it with.
My weakest points/skills are my finishing capabilities and confidence of providing a good finish. I am okay, but by no means an expert, in spraying lacquer and I recently discovered the Sam Maloof finish. The Maloof finish is about as sure fire as it gets to create a nice even presentable finish. I can see those two being my only finish types in the near and distant future.

My strong skills are actually design, and my weakest is patience to take the time a particular task needs. I often rush and it's visible in my finished projects.

My strong skill is planning and researching. Some call it procrastination, I call it engineering.

My weakness is finishing. I'm too impatient once the joinery and assembly is done.
