Default simple box

I want to make a simple wood box. I've got the sides figured out (either dovetail, or box joint) but I can't figure out the top and bottom. What is the simplest way to make a top and bottom? Seems like I remember some woodworking show, teach how to make a box and then make a lid by opening the box with the table saw. Any ideas? THANKS

Do you want the lid to hinge or just sit on top?

i'd like it to hinge, maybe a barrel hinge. My project would be a box, then a box in the box, etc.

No matter which joinery you use for the 4 sides of the box, you can rabbit a joint for the bottom and top, and have them "drop in". Then, using a table saw and fence, cut the lid by sawing all 4 sides. If done very carefully, you will have a great fit, with grain matching. http://www.woodworkingtalk.com/attac...1&d=1167078754
