Default Rip or Dado blade?

I'm looking for a table saw blade that i can use to cut splines and dados. I was considering a dado blade, but think that a 1/4 spline (smallest a dado blade will go) might be too thick for splines in 3/4 wood. Would it be a better value to just get a ripping blade so that I can cut thinner splines and make dado in multiple passes?

Any thoughts?

My thoughts are ...tools? I need them both.
If my intended purpose was mostly splines and a dado now and then, a good quality, flat bottom, 1/8" kerf ripping blade is what I would go with. So yes, buy both.

I would go with rob on this one. I personally use a dado blade, but certain tools will always come in handy for different jobs

Where you getting your wood from? Rare Earth gives you all the free splines you'd want when you buy their wood.

I agree with everyone else. I would save up if needed and get both blades. I think you will be glad you did down the road.

I get most of my wood locally, and some on ebay...

I'm not worried about making the splines themselves, just making a slot for the splines to fit nicely.

Looking at the Freud blades, should I look more toward the standard rip blade, or the glue line rip blade, keeping in mind that I want to have a flat bottom for splines....
