Default Removing Wax

Hi guys,
I recently purchased a bunch of exotic wood spindle blanks to cut into cubes and use as trophy mounts.
The only problem is, they were shipped with a very thick wax coating.
I want to strip it and apply some wipe on poly.
Is odorless mineral spirits my best bet for remvoing wax or would some other solvent be superior (acetone, alcohol)?
Cheers,
Sam

Sam,
Not sure which solvent would work best. Just keep in mind though, when you buy exotic wood and it has a wax coating, a lot of time the wood is sealed when it is fresh cut and may not be dry yet. It may not be a problem with the small cubes you are cutting it into. Sometimes I will take a spare 6" jointer blade and use it like a scraper to remove most of the wax. You could then try some of the different solvents at that point. Or you could run it through the bandsaw if it is tuned and running true to just cut a thin shaving off to expose the fresh wood under the wax. Lightly sand with an orbital sander and you should be good to go.
