Is it Heart grade or sap?

Either way I think it will be fine if you keep it at 7% moisture throughout the project.

Good luck, and post some pic's when you're done. I have a crap load of SAP that I could send you if you need it!

Thanks for the reply, it is heartwood and has been dried for about 8 years and its been indoors for about the same amount of time, so I would think its at a good moisture level. I dont have a moisture gauge. Bottom line is you think its strong enough.

Redwood should be strong enough for a Morris style chair. After 8 years in a dry environment you should have no problem with moisture content. Keep in mind that one drawback with redwood is its softness, so it will dent and scratch very easily. Other than that, it should make a very attractive chair.
