Default Question about paste wax..

Hi all- I'm finishing some cherry cabinets with linseed oil followed by several coats of blonde shellac. The question I have is, when I rub out the shellac finish with 0000 steel wool and paste briwax, do I keep using the steel wool if I want to put another coat or two of wax on? Thanks!!!!!!!! Oh, happy Memorial Day!

The wool is to remove any over spray on the finish. Once it is smooth you no longer need the wool.

No ... Steel wool will remove the wax. Use a lambs wool buffer. Rick

I would apply the first coat with steel wool and then buff with some sort of wool cloth then additional coats with a wool cloth and then a cloth wool buffer.

It looks like the secret is rubbing it hard enough to melt at about 85 degrees to get a deep luster.

Interesting stuff, I may give it a shot on my next project. (without the shellac)

I have to wonder why this is needed over shellac?
