Pine and more pine - Woodworking Talk

I have been reading wood working forums for a long time, and it kills me to see so many picutures with walnut and oak. Alot of these are native to the wood workers area. I get pine. Lots of it, but pine....

pine is pretty much all i've ever worked with.

on rare occasion i've worked with oak. but i wouldn't call myself a woodworker, yet. i'm a DIY homeowner that has done a good deal of remodeling and basement finishing on my own house. i've done some small wood projects and a tiny bit of refinishing. it's not until recently (last month) that i worked with Walnut and Maple when building some butcher blocks. i don't know if that really counts as woodworking either.

but it was different to work with, much harder, more dense. i'm looking forward to playing with more 'different' types of wood. but i like working with pine and think that a clear finish on clear pine is outstanding looking.

yeah to be honest I mostly use pine too

haha it works but with the lathe I just got I've been using maple and oak but yeah the only wood I've used from what I know is oak, maple, pine, western red ceder, and some mahogany they work just fine.

I agree....pine is a great for working. It would be nice to walk out the door and pull a slab of home grown hardwood off the pile.

You have some nice pieces there. Both the raw and the finished ones...do you sell more of the wood then you use or do you use it all.

I sell more than I use. And I sawmill for others (their logs). I have a "stash" of special stock that I will not sell, nor do I have the skill to do it any justice

I love the smell when I cut through an especially sappy pine knot. Smells like Christmas!
