Default Not a bad day...

Things could be worse. Right now I'm in the shop "putzing around". The barrel stove is roaring, my 4-legged buddy, Rambo is in his in-shop doghouse, coffee is fresh and hot, the tunes on the radio are going and I have good supply of cigarettes (I know, I know)
How's your day?

With the wind its -45 C... its too cold to go hunting, so after lunch its off to the shop to do the exact thing you're doing...putzing around (this includes keeping the mastiff from chewing on stock).

Sometimes "putzing around" the shop end up being the best days for me! I may not accomplish anything but I sure enjoy it. Sometimes this putzing leads to great new ideas for a project or a better way to arrange the shop, etc, etc. Ah, a man (or woman) in his/her domain! Nothin better!

I'm headed out to the shop to finish up a couple of projects. It's the only way to get away from this darned keyboard.

I really want to go out to the shop, but I'm having a problem with ambition today. I'm having some issues with laziness. Sometimes a nice lazy day is in order as well.

I agree! I will admit, there are a few times a year that I don't come out of the bathrobe. Usually it's a funky, dark, cold, rainy day and there happens to be a few good movies either on TV or DVD.
That's usually a day for having breakfast for dinner also. Although, I do that quite a bit.

I cut my first dados ever yesterday. Today I'm gluing up. I only have 4 clamps, so I go out and glue a joint, wait an hour, go glue another joint.... etc.

I'm building new rails for my daughter's bed. The bed was originally my Mom's... a 3/4 full. Have you priced a 3/4 full mattress lately? Lemme tell ya, it's way cheaper to build new rails for the bed.

I have to get the gluing done before my wife gets home from her Mom's. it's In her parking spot in my workshop.... er..... garage.

It's only in the teens here and the garage is above freezing.

I got down to the shop this morning and spent an hour and a half just vacuuming up sawdust. We went to woodworking show at the Civic center in Atlanta and spent too much money on bargains, now I need to figure out a better way to organise the shop. Things are starting to get underfoot.

Refurbished Rigid compound miter saw for $140, Roller stands for $30, oversized square, calipers, router bits. Believe it or not my wife was egging me on to buy this or that. We also sat in on some interesting talks on finishing and the use of hand planes. We were there from 10 am til 4:30. Fun but tiring!

It hasn't been a bad one. I also fired up the woodstove and had the dogs in their in-shop dog house. Spent the day doing some beginner scroll sawing exercises and cut out a few different practice pieces.

This stuff is addicting. I've got a new itch now.

It's 20` out side with freezing rain in the forecast.
The shop is 73`.

The oldies station is going.

Sasquatch is keeping the hot tea coming.

Finishing up the pivot plates for the mast.

I need to clean up some, I need the long, 12', work bench to start
working on the mast.

The boat is under it covers to keep the dust out.

All in all, not a bad day.

Foot note: No one commented on my last post? Kind'a hurt my
feelings?

Finished my first project in my shop today! -15 this morning, so I went straight to the basement to put the finishing touches on my new assembly table.
2 coats of poly later, I added the power strip. May add a way to store clamps but for a guy who used to tell his kids if they saw me with a power tool to tackle me and take it away before I hurt someone, I'm pleased. It came out 1/16" taller than I wanted and is dead level. Amazing!

I had the same kind of day. I cranked the heat up, resawed some tiger maple into 4x6x.75" swatches for a customer's stain samples, drank some suds and pondered life for a bit, then made my son a gas station out of scraps. The wife was happy and so was the boy when I came home. However the gas station did still smell a bit of fresh lacquer.

I spent the whole weekend in the shop. My computer at home died so I coundn't get on here and spend all day. So I am at work seeing what I have missed. It is amazing how much I can get done in the shop when I don't have a computer to use.

Exceptionally well here, too, as a matter of fact.

Since the new year began, I finished a new computer desk for the home, two new dressers for my sons' rooms, and am today beginning drawing a small credenza for a neighbor--cash job. I am waiting on new software for my camera so I can again post images (it seems Windows Vista doesn't want to have anything to do with any XP-gen software.)

It's not been above 20 degrees here since Thu., but the heaters are humming, the dog is agreeable to laying on her pallet and watching, and I too have music and a fresh pouch of soft tobacco hand-rolled cigars.

Bills are paid, kids are well, wife is working, and I'm on a day off. I'll catch you fellas later....

Stressing over how to give my two weeks at my current job (my bosses are the best and i've made a lot of personal relationships with my co-workers) and then how to sell my house so i can move 3 hours northeast...

Milled twenty 4"X8' oak slabs yesterday, walking slow today, but a good feeling. Alaskan mill with chainsaw, lot of work. Feels good to beat the building supply store. No idea what am going to make with it all, won't be dry for a year. Sunny 65 degree day out here in Calif. This retirement stuff is hard work. Not a bad day.
