Default My ARMY during the Holidays . . .

During my twenty years in my ARMY I was stationed in some of the real armpits on this planet. One of the most moving things that ever happened was getting "Any Soldier" cards during the holidays. Some even turned into lifelong relationships with classes, schools and individuals. Since "Any soldier" cards and packages are'nt allowed and longer (understandbly, by the way) this link is a great way to brighten a Service Members season "over there". Take my word for it, being over there, anywhere but home, right now bites ! Hope I get this "link thing" right. If even half the folks here give it a try we'll make a bunch of GI's (and, yes, Dogfaces, Zoomies and Squids) days ! This outfit has been around for awhile so no worries.

Let's Say Thanks

Merry Christmas ( yes I said it ! ) and Happy Hanukkah !

I'm with Steve on this one. It does mean a lot, and takes very little effort. It's a way of showing you care. Thanks for the link.

While I think this may be in the "off-topic" category, I'll chime in and say you can also open up your home for holiday meals to service members on leave during the holidays. Unfortunately I can't find links for it right now...

I have spent 2 of my last 3 X-mas holidays in Iraq and Afghanistan, and i will tell you that the packages that the Soldiers get do mean a lot to them. They are greatly appreciated by everyone.

anysoldier.com is also an excellent way to lift a serviceperson's spirits any time of year. You can select a soldier or unit from any state or branch of service you want. Send magazines, snacks, socks, DVD's, or whatever you want/whatever they want...I use the flat rate boxes and pack them to the gills. I've found it amazingly rewarding to do that, and you do make a friend from it. My sister did it after I did, and she and her husband are now close friends with the soldier and his wife.

Many of the soldiers with anysoldier.com profiles are unit leaders that represent their group, and are adept at getting the boxes to the guys and gals that don't have as much support from home as others do.

Going shopping for someone who is in harm's way or deployed away from their family is fun, and makes you really put your life in perspective. Everyone should do it. You don't have to be pen pals if you don't want to.
