These oictures are from the inside of a pocket door to my attic. This door appears to have some sort of shellac or shiny finish that my daughter's closet door does not. (At least her door is not very glossy)
Any idea what wood this is and what they used to finish it?
(Once again, sorry about the glare)

Thank you so much! I would have never known. I'm not very familiar with the wood...what kind of finishing should I do to it? This door is in a bit rougher shape than the other and could use some TLC. Plus the other side is painted and I would like them to match. Any tips? Very grateful for all of your help!

I would suggest sanding the old finish out and applying satin varathane. No more gloss. But, that's my preference. You may like the gloss. I think the grain shows better through a satin finish than through a gloss finish.

I don't like the really glassy look myself but I do need something very durable and easy to clean. My daughter is almost 2 and can be quite destructive. I think satin or semi-gloss would be great.
