Default Long put off project.

This might go in power tools?? I never post in the
right place anyway..

Today I changed knifes in the bench top planer, 22-540
Delta, about 20 years old, picked it up at a pawn
shop for $50. The adjuster was frozen, rust. Spent
better part of two days getting it apart and cleaned
up.

Anyway, I pulled the knifes out and took them to be
sharpened, can't be sharpened.. Double sided throw
a ways. So I took them back home and put them back
with the new edge out.

I should have done this years ago. It cuts great, much
less noise, and much better finish on the wood.

I also cleaned the feed rollers while I had it apart.

I am missing one side cover and the scale is all worn
off but it runs good and now does a great job.

Before it would speed up and slow down, the feed
that is and leave dips in the surface some times.

The knifes were real bad BTW, I had to use the outer
edges as the center would leave marks before I changed
the knifes.

I marked the calender so I can change them again
in 2029.

I love the way that new blades or slight adjustments can make an old tool work like new again. I changed my blades a few years ago and had the same reaction as you. Wow!!! This thing does a great job!!!
Good for you. Make some woodchips!!!!

I did five 1X3X48" pieces of rough cedar for
a clock project and made about five gallons
of chips.

It sure turned out pretty. I put this off way too
long.

I am stuck on the boat project until we get some
nicer weather, it is hard to fit a 12' mast on a boat
in a shop with a 10' ceiling.
I would cut a hole, but all the insulation would fall
out.
And the space above is floored as well.
