How to set biscuit joiner for mitered joint

I borrowed this type of biscuit joiner:

I know how to make 90 degree biscuit cuts and how to set the biscuit depth (#0, #10, etc.). I'm just having troube setting it for 45 degree angles. There is a vertical dial that goes from 0 to 2 inches. Then there is a round dial that has the degrees. I'm using 3/4 in wood. How do I set this to cut on 45 degree angles? I tried to do it manually. I placed the wood on a flat surface and let the fence lie flat on the wood (motor assembly and blade all were tilted up at a 45 degree angle).

I have that exact model and have found that it is not very accurate. I am not sure that I would even try what you want to do.
