Default Hinge Problem

Does anybody have a solution for this problem? Is there a hinge that would work for this?

I don't know of hinge that will inset the door, and when open will make the door flush with the opening. I have details for an overlay hinge that opens flush to the cabinet side...if that would help.

Sleeper,
What are you trying to build that needs this particular setup? Maybe there is another way to do it.

Thanks for replying.
The most important position is the open position. The surface in this position will be a fold down extension to a shelf. I don’t want a space between the shelf and the leaf where things can fall through.
The closed position is just pulling the leaf up out of the way so that cabinet doors can close over it. The new leaf cannot go more that 90 deg because things will be left on the shelf.
I can’t picture how the overlay will work, but I guess I could cut ¾” off the shelf to use a regular hinge and still have the doors close. I’m trying to avoid that, because that causes other problems.

I can’t remember for sure, but I thought I saw a hinge similar to this once. I don’t remember the details or exactly how it worked, but it had a spring and scissor mechanism. Oh well, its probably more than I want to pay for it.

This is a Blum full overlay, that opens flush to the cabinet wall.

Thanks cabinetman, if I hook one of these up backwards it might work. Looks like I will still have a gap when open, but it’s a start. Maybe I can set it farther in to close the gap when open.

I also found another hinge at Rocker that might work. It also still has a gap, but I hoping I can adjust it. I need to
find something sold locally to play around with.
