GUN CABINETS

I am planning to make a Gun Cabinet.
I've done few of them already but I would like to see some other design ideas.
Does anyone have any good idea or hint?

Hi Jake,
In this day and age, gun cabinets are not really recommended anymore. I remember as a kid everyone had them to display their guns. I just went to a concealed weapons class Sunday. They recommend gun safes. Lock em up so no unauthorized people end up with your guns. As much as I enjoy seeing some nice quality pieces, I follow the safe method.
If you still want to build one however, Woodcraft magazine had a nice article with plans a few months ago for a nicely designed cabinet.

One gun is on display

Any others are behind 1/4 inch of steel.

Yeah mine are in a "Stack On" cabinet. Not quite a safe but gets the job done. My kids know better than to touch my firearms, but non the less, I might as well take away the temptation.

Gun cabinets are cool to make. I must agree in these times though that a safe is a much better option.
I have considered framing my safe in an enclosed closet or somthing similiar just to trim is out a little.

I've been asked to make a gun safe from wood. Not to display the guns, but to lock them from children.Personally,I have a safe.not to keep my children out,but more for keeping other children away from them. This gun cabinet will have no glass, will be made of 5/4 doors, top, face frame around drawer. The case will be 3/4 plywood.
I've only drawn sketches so far as He doesn't know what he wants or what his budget will allow. The base will be wider front to back and side to side than the cabinet. The base will have a large drawer for ammo and will lock. The cabinet itself will be approximately 60" tall to accommodate long guns and ease placement and removal.I've not yet come up with a lock for the door or doors.I imagine sliding bars, top and bottom,on a twist handle. The big problem is most people want things at my cost,in which case wally world sells metal safes for $150 or so.

Arrow Safe cabinets

That is more like it.
What I had in mind was Metal safe trimmed out with wood and raised panels so that it is really safe but still has that beautiful furniture look.
Glass doors would be only used for display cabinet with no ammo in it.

George,
That is a thing of beauty. What is it, looks like the one Chuck Connors had on the Rifleman.

It is a Winchester Model 84 in 32-40, a John Wayne Commerative.

It was produced around 1981. It has a medalion with the head of John Wayne embedded on the right stock. There is fancy engraving on the receiver and the names of Wayne's western films engraved on both sides. The Duke's reproduced signature is on the tang.

It has never been fired and never will be fired by me.
