Default Glue on clamps question

After using my aluminum bar clamps a few times, a hard build up of glue has to be removed. That brings up a couple of questions.

1. Is there a spray (or wipe on) material that can be applied to the bar before gluing that will keep the glue from sticking?

2. Is there an easier way to remove the hardened glue from the clamps than scraping it off?

Thanks

1. Wax, Pam, T-9, Pledge, all sparingly of course. Probably others too.

2. Heat it up with a heat gun and peel it off.

Heat gun? Never thought of that, I'll give it a try. I have 4 clamps that need a lot of work and that seems to be an easy way.

Thanks

Use a damp cloth to clean up any excess glue after clamping. A heat gun is a good idea... use a dull scraper. Also ...cut down on the amount of glue you`re using. Just an idea!! I spread glue with my fingers. then roll up the access in my palm and take a rag to the rest. I hate dirty tools!!! Rick

Hello Ohio Ron
Have you thought of wrapping saran wrap around your bars, and securing it with masking tape before gluing up? You could use wax paper as well, but you might get some wax transfer. Or, plain brown wrapping paper should work too, with no problem of transfer.

Gerry

PS: I just had another thought, for those of us using pipe clamps. There are plastic bar covers available for closet hanger rods, and wooden curtain rods, that are close to the size of 3/4" pipe. These could be used during glue up, and chucked out when they get too ugly.
