Default Egyption To British Secret Compartments

Historic Portable Furniture with secret compartments,

Glorious furniture to work on.

The history of these pieces of furniture dates back to the Byzantine period when great armies left there homelands of Christian Europe and the warrior kings took all their precious items with them.

The original Knights of the Great Crusades from England,France and what we now call the Balkans took all their valuables with them on these Crusades and made furniture to contain them and also to conceal certain precious items such as documents and jewels within hidden compartments.

The British Aristocrats who where in the main Army Officers where use to the life of luxury so they ordered furniture that would fit in with their own Noble upbringings and realised that they too had to conceal certain valuables on their adventures to India,Africa and the American Colonies.

Surrey Carpentry and Developments the leading Carpenters in Surrey who restore listed buildings such as Castles,Churches and Historic Houses have undertaken numerous renovations to some of these wonderful pieces of furniture and uncovered secret compartments in the most unlikely places.

These Surrey Carpenters have uncovered secret compartments within what looks like solid panels, discovered hollow recesses behind the handles and hollow handles.

In the most, furniture that could be dissmantled would be easier to transport by Ship,Camel and Horse and the secret compartments where double skinned to either drawers or other panels and pillars.

One particular Army Officer of an English Noble family who fought at Natal refused to have his furniture flat packed and he hired extra servants to transport whole pieces of furniture to his African residence.
With the money he had hidden in the pieces he invested in a Gold Mine.

Carpenters played vital roles that is why a good carpenter is worth his weight in Gold and always will be.

Here endeth the lesson
