Tom-3, Do you have the slides already? Most slides just screw to the side of the drawer and the side of the "box" the drawer slides into. Kreg makes some jigs to simplify drawer slide installation. Here is a link to them. Amazon.com: Kreg NZ03-B Drawer Mounting Brackets:... Amazon.com: Kreg NZ03-B Drawer Mounting Brackets:...
and Amazon.com: Kreg NZ03 Magnetic Drawer Slide... Amazon.com: Kreg NZ03 Magnetic Drawer Slide...
I've never used either one but have looked into them. They have great reviews and looks like they would save alot of time and measuring when installing drawer slides. Looks like they make it "fool proof". I would think with these and the help from your son you will have no problems installing the slides. I am going to be building a tool box in the near future and will probably buy both of these for installing all the drawer slides.

Good luck, Scott

I have these Kreg draw slide mounting tools. The tools are handy and help make mounting the slides accurate.

Home Depot or Menards carries some decent drawer slides. I dont know how much info they give as far as load capacity. I also bought some from Rockler which are good. I prefer the ball bearing type.

I can almost read the minds of the pro's on here, like what the hell is he doing here. I don't have anybody else to ask. Back to question. I dont know what I need for Slides. one drawer will be loaded heavely and the other 3 would be normal. router bits drill bits and so on. I have never installed a drawer slide. This tells a lot about where I am on woodworking skills. I have little practice, but I really want to get into woodworking the best I can with the situation as it is. I pobobly will not get far,but every inch forward will means alot to me.
I need some info on slides and installation. I got ahead of myself and bought all tooling a man could want except a thickness planer. I can get my son to do what I cannot. I need to start somewhere and decided on the drawers. Any info will be valuble to me.
Thank you all Dale

ps I love this forum and spend most of my days reading it and the arcives.

Hi Dale,
You don't mention but, I'm assuming your bench is open underneath. In which case side mounting drawer slides won't work. Could you be wanting something like a key board slide that would mount to the underside of the bench? If so, here's a site that may interest you. Least expensive I've found on line. The keyboard slide is about 13th down the page.

Need any more help, please post here. Great bunch of guys and gals here.
