Default Drawer Slide Spec Question

I need to replace the slides on an approx 30" wide pull out tray. Based on the weight rating a slide like this would be fine, but there's a comment "Designed for box drawer applications up to 24" in width". I see similar limitations on other slides. My question is why does the width of the drawer make any difference?

The wider the drawer the more likely you'll get some side to side movement as the drawer gets pulled out. My suggestion is to make the box 1 1/16" narrower than the opening and shim if need be for the best action. Most all slides will do that. As long as you get a good fit, it will be minimized.

Check here for slides.

I too, have done this on wide drawers and you get a little bit extra side to side wiggle, but not much, and they work just fine if your installation is accurate.

I have a drawer in my garage that is 30" wide. I use this drawer for pneumatic tools so it holds heavy material. I used an appropriately rated slide and have no problem.
