Default drawer/lid combo advice

I am trying to build a tool chest for my carving tools, 2 drawers. I saw a chest that has the front panel that folds down and the acts as a bottom platform, and also recedes into the bottom base area of the actual cabinet. Does anyone know how to put this together. It might be as simple as a protruding dowel on the bottomshelf/cabinet front that rides inside a groove on the cabinet sides??
here is what I would like to do:

That's a nice looking little tool chest. Anything I have seen similar has a slot cut into the inside side walls, and either a dowell or a pin protruding from the door edges. You can also buy little spring loaded pins if that is your preference.
